Every book begins somewhere. An idea. A memory. A story. A message that refuses to leave her alone.
Her Own Venture Academy: The Author Experience™ is a 10-week guided educational journey designed to help aspiring women authors understand the process of developing, writing, editing, designing, and preparing a book for publication.
Through practical instruction, guided exercises, workbook resources, real-world publishing examples, and dedicated discussion time, participants gain the knowledge and tools to navigate their individual author journeys.
This is not a race to finish a manuscript. The program follows a structured 10-week curriculum, while each participant develops her own book at her own pace.

Every woman has something she wants to create. Knowledge gives her the tools to begin.
Her Own Venture Academy is the educational division of Her Own Venture LLC, created to make learning practical, purposeful, and connected to the things women want to build.
Beginning with writing and publishing, the Academy is developing guided educational experiences that combine knowledge, real-world examples, creative exploration, and practical resources.
Its purpose is not to rush the creative process, but to equip women with the understanding and tools to move forward on their own terms.
THE CURRICULUM
TEN WEEKS.
ONE AUTHOR JOURNEY.
From discovering the book within her to understanding the world of publishing, each week introduces essential knowledge, tools, and practical processes that she can apply when her manuscript needs them.
WEEK 01
THE BOOK WITHIN HER
Before the writing begins, she must understand the story or message she is carrying. Week 01 is about clarity, purpose, and the foundation of her author journey.
WEEK 02
THE PATH TOWARDS HER STORY
Developing the structure that will hold her ideas together. She learns to build a roadmap for her manuscript that allows for both focus and creative freedom.
WEEK 03
THE WORDS THAT TELL HER STORY
Moving beyond inspiration into the reality of the work. Exploring word count, flow, consistency, and the practical habits of a writing life.
WEEK 04
THE VOICE BEHIND HER STORY
Understanding how she speaks through the page. This week explores narrative arc, perspective, and the unique voice that makes the book hers.
WEEK 05
HER STORY IS WORTH FINISHING
The transition from idea to document. Practical techniques for moving through the first draft without the weight of perfectionism.
WEEK 06
PROTECT HER VOICE
Understanding how to use tools to strengthen her work. This week features the core workflow: HER MANUSCRIPT → AI FEEDBACK → HER DECISION → HER REVISION.
WEEK 07
PERFECTING HER MANUSCRIPT
Moving from draft to development. Understanding the different stages of editing—developmental, copyediting, and proofreading—and what her book needs next.
WEEK 08
STYLE HER STORY
Formatting, interior design, and the technical elements that turn a manuscript into a book. Understanding the anatomy of professional publishing.
WEEK 09
THE WORLD IS READY FOR HER STORY
Cover design and visual identity. Learning how to translate the essence of her book into a professional, compelling visual presence.
WEEK 10
HER STORY IS READY FOR THE WORLD
Understanding her options – traditional, independent, or Her Own Publishing pathways to help her decide her next move.
MORE THAN A CLASS
THE HER OWN AUTHOR ROOM.
A space for questions, conversations, creative breakthroughs, and the moments in between.
Every week of The Author Experience includes approximately 20 minutes of dedicated Her Own Author Room time. Participants can bring their writing questions, ideas, outlines, excerpts, creative blocks, editing concerns, design questions, and publishing uncertainties into a shared learning environment.
The Author Room is designed to make space for discussion, practical guidance, and the realities of developing a book. There is no requirement to finish the previous week's work before participating in the next session.
SHE DOESN'T HAVE TO BE CAUGHT UP TO BELONG IN THE ROOM.
BEHIND THE BOOK
REAL STORIES. REAL PROCESS. REAL LESSONS.
The Author Experience draws on real-world lessons from Farzaana Salma Khan's journey developing Under the Midnight Moon: Luna. Throughout the program, participants explore examples connected to book development, storytelling, editing, editorial work, manuscript formatting, cover design, and publishing decisions.

The Author Experience gives participants the foundation to understand their options and make informed decisions about their publishing journeys. When their manuscripts are ready, participants may explore different pathways.
PATHWAY ONE — HER OWN PUBLISHING
Participants may apply for publication under the HER OWN PUBLISHING imprint. This involves a paid manuscript review. Exceptional manuscripts may be invited into a separate publishing support experience.

PATHWAY TWO — INDEPENDENT SELF-PUBLISHING
For authors who prefer to manage their own process, the Academy is developing 'The Author Experience Part 2 — Self-Publishing With Amazon KDP'. This experience will provide step-by-step guidance on technical and design aspects of self-publishing.

At the end of ten weeks, one woman may have a completed manuscript. Another may have five chapters. Another may finally have the outline for a story she's carried for years. It is about leaving with the knowledge, tools, resources, community, and roadmap to continue her author journey.
